"Back on the Chain Gang" is a song written and recorded by Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders.  The song was included on the album Learning to Crawl. The song entered the Billboard charts in 1982 and reached No. 5 on the Hot 100 becoming the band's biggest hit in the U.S.
